MI-UCP | Annual Awards

Mary Ann Greenawalt Memorial

Annual Awards

In the past, this event has been a luncheon named in honor of former UCP/Detroit board member Mary Ann Greenawalt who was a powerful voice in both the disability and the business communities throughout Southeastern Michigan.

For 2021  due to COVID-19, MI-UCP held a virtual presentation  to give out the Marion (Kit) McDonnell “Close the Disability Divide” Award, The Richard L. Beer Volunteer Award, The Roger McCarville Community Partner Award, Mark Lezzote Public Policy Award and The Mike Ward Quiet Hero Award.

Our 2023 Awards took place on October 13 at 1:00 pm (EST)

This year's key note speaker is the incredible Steph "The Hammer" Roach. A true testament to the power of resilience and determination, Steph has faced adversity head-on and emerged stronger than ever.

In addition to having Cerebral Palsy, Steph recently confronted one of life's most formidable challenges: Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 3B. Her journey through this battle not only showcased her unwavering spirit but also demonstrated the profound impact of fitness in the fight against adversity. As a survivor, Steph decided to channel her passion for fitness into a mission to inspire and motivate others. Her book, "DRIVEN: How Adversity Helped Me Find My Greatest Potential," is a collection of stories that will inspire and motivate you to know you are capable of way more than you think. "All you have to do is be DRIVEN."

Steph Roach's commitment to inclusivity and breaking down barriers extends beyond her personal journey. As the world's first Level 2 CrossFit trainer living with Cerebral Palsy and the first adaptive athlete signed by Nike Training (2018-2022), she has not only shattered stereotypes but also paved the way for countless others. Steph's dedication to changing societal perceptions of physical disabilities in the fitness industry has left an indelible mark. Her virtual fitness company, "Staying Driven," is a testament to her belief that fitness should be accessible to everyone.
